Homalomena plants prefer bright, indirect light. The ideal location for them would be close to a lightly curtained window or a few feet away from a window with sheer curtains or blinds. If you can’t provide bright, indirect light, you can use a fluorescent light or a grow light to make up for the lack of natural light.

Homalomena plants thrive in moist, but not soggy, soil. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly until the water flows from the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot and discard the excess water. Reduce watering during the winter months.

A good potting mix for a Homalomena plant should contain a combination of soil, sand, peat moss, and perlite. The soil should be a loamy, well-draining mixture of soil, sand, and compost. The peat moss helps to retain moisture and perlite provides additional drainage. A balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) should also be added to the potting mix to provide necessary nutrients.
