The Epipremnum 'Shangri La' (widely known as the Godzilla Pothos or Sleeping Pothos) is an extraordinary, highly mutated collector cultivar that completely transforms the classic pothos silhouette. Developed in Japan, this architectural curiosity brings fascinating prehistoric texture and sculpted elegance to modern indoor plant collections.

Unlike standard flat-leaved pothos, each leaf is uniquely curled, cupped, and heavily crinkled inward, resembling miniature dragon scales or ruffled cooked spinach. The glossy, dark emerald foliage has a thick, leathery substance that holds its dramatic shape effortlessly, giving the vine a dense, sculpted appearance as it climbs or cascades.

Crinkled "Godzilla" Foliage & Sculptural Form The defining asset of 'Shangri La' is its deeply puckered, inrolled leaf structure. The tightly wrinkled, three-dimensional leaves catch ambient room light across their glossy ridges, creating a distinct tactile presence unlike any other vining aroid.

Versatile Cascading or Totem Climbing Habit Whether styled to spill from an elevated pot where its dense, textured vines cluster tightly, or trained upward along a cedar plank or moss pole to encourage larger, more dramatic crinkled leaves, it maintains a robust, compact form.

Caution: Toxic to Pets Like all premium members of the Araceae family, 'Shangri La' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting any part of the leaves or stems will cause immediate oral burning, swelling, and digestive discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it safely elevated out of reach.

Light

▾

Requires consistent, bright indirect filtered light. Good ambient lighting ensures tight internode spacing and sustains vigorous growth while keeping the deep green foliage glossy. Protect it strictly from harsh direct afternoon sun to avoid scorching the textured leaf folds.

Watering

▾

Allow the top 50% of the potting medium to dry out fully before providing a thorough, deep soak. The crinkled, thick leaves store moisture efficiently, making it sensitive to overwatering and soggy soil conditions. Always ensure excess water drains freely away from the pot base.

Soil & Care

▾

Adapts easily to standard household humidity (45% to 60%). Pot it in an ultra-open, fast-draining aroid substrate combining rich peat or coco coir heavily amended with coarse perlite, orchid bark, and horticultural charcoal to keep the root system aerated.
