Alocasia Grandis, often known as Elephant Ear due to its large, broad leaves, is a stunning tropical plant that adds a bold and exotic touch to any indoor space. This plant features enormous, heart-shaped to shield-shaped leaves with prominent veins, often green and glossy. The leaves can grow quite large, contributing to the plant's common name, Elephant Ear. With its upright and robust growth, the Alocasia Grandis typically reaches heights of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) in optimal conditions, forming a clump with multiple stems arising from a central rhizome.

Light

Alocasia thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a window with filtered sunlight, ensuring it receives gentle rays that mimic its natural habitat. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves. If you notice the leaves reaching for light, gradually adjust its placement to avoid sudden changes.

Water

Maintain a consistent watering routine for your Alocasia:

Frequency: Water when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry to the touch.
Technique: Water thoroughly, allowing water to seep out of the drainage holes. Ensure proper drainage to prevent water accumulation.
Caution: Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage and that excess water is promptly removed from saucers.

Growing Media

Provide your Alocasia with a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil mix. A blend of peat moss, perlite, and a touch of orchid bark or coconut coir creates an ideal substrate. This mixture promotes healthy root growth, prevents waterlogging, and allows the plant to thrive.
