The Hoya Carnosa 'Variegated' (the Variegated Wax Plant) is a wildly popular indoor classic that blends succulent-like durability with striking, multi-colored elegance. Perfectly suited for low-maintenance plant lovers, this versatile vining cultivar brings enduring tropical luxury and dynamic color to bright home spaces.

Each thick, leathery leaf features an unpredictable marbling of creamy-white, soft yellow, and rich emerald green. Brand-new leaves often emerge in bright shades of bubblegum pink or ruby-red under good lighting before settling into their cream and green patterns, while mature vines treat patient growers to clusters of sweet-smelling, star-shaped wax flowers.

Vibrant Cream & Pink Variegation The standout feature of this cultivar is its high-contrast color palette. The combination of thick green leaves, bright cream margins or centers, and flush pink emergent shoots creates a lush, multi-dimensional look that captures light beautifully.

Versatile Trailing or Climbing Habit Whether allowed to spill gracefully from an elevated shelf or hanging basket, or trained upward along a bamboo hoop or trellis, this hardy vine builds a dense, rich foliage canopy that stays beautiful for years with minimal effort.

100% Pet-Friendly & Safe Great news for pet parents! The entire Hoya genus is non-toxic to dogs and cats according to ASPCA guidelines, making this variegated wax vine a completely worry-free choice for any room in your home.

Light & Blooming

▾

Requires consistent, bright indirect light to gentle direct morning sunlight. Ample ambient lighting is essential to fuel the cream and pink variegation and encourage frequent flower production. Protect it strictly from harsh afternoon solar rays to prevent leaf scorch.

Watering

▾

Treat this plant like a semi-succulent. Allow the top 75% of the soil mixture to dry out fully before providing a thorough, deep drench. Its thick leaves store moisture efficiently, making it drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering or soggy soil conditions.

Soil & Care

▾

Adapts easily to standard household humidity (40% to 60%). It requires an ultra-open, fast-draining potting substrate—combine rich peat or coco coir heavily amended with orchid bark, coarse perlite, and horticultural charcoal to keep the roots thoroughly aerated.
