Light

Maranta leuconeura thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light may cause the leaves to lose their vibrant colors and patterns. A spot near an east or north-facing window, or filtered light through sheer curtains, is ideal.

Water

Maranta leuconeura prefers consistently moist soil but not waterlogged conditions. Water it when the top inch of soil feels dry, using room-temperature, filtered, or distilled water to avoid chlorine and fluoride, which can harm the plant. Reduce watering frequency in winter when growth slows down.

Growing Media

For Maranta leuconeura (prayer plant), use a well-draining, nutrient-rich growing medium composed of 2 parts peat moss or coco coir, 1 part perlite or pumice, and 1 part pine or orchid bark. This blend retains moisture, provides good aeration, and prevents waterlogging, creating an ideal environment for healthy root growth.
