This kind of medium prevents root rot, supports fine feeder roots, and mimics the cool, humus-rich forest soil azaleas naturally grow in.

Azaleas are acid-loving plants that need light, balanced feeding to thrive. Use a fertilizer formulated for azaleas, rhododendrons, or other acid-loving plants, ideally in the 10-8-6 or 12-6-6 range, or organic options like neem cake, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, and small amounts of vermicompost. Feed them in early spring to boost budding and once again after flowering to help recovery and new growth. Go very light during the monsoon and avoid fertilizing in winter.
