The Philodendron Sharoniae is an absolute masterpiece of natural texture. Native to the wet, tropical rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador, this premium climbing aroid is legendary among rare plant collectors for its magnificent, elongated, pendulous leaves that showcase a dramatic, deeply rippled "washboard" surface texture.
As this exquisite hemiepiphyte matures, its leaves drop downward, elongating dramatically into long, teardrop-shaped shields. The striking, tight horizontal pleats running across the foliage capture ambient light beautifully, delivering an ultra-luxurious, deeply architectural jungle energy to your indoor plant spaces.
Breathtaking Pleated Ridges
The defining asset of the Sharoniae is its heavily corrugated leaf structure. The tight horizontal rippling becomes significantly deeper and more pronounced with each new leaf, offering a tactile washboard texture that sets it far apart from smooth-leafed aroids.
Provide Vertical Support to Elongate
To see this plant achieve its signature giant, pendulous leaf trajectory, it requires a sturdy moss pole or wooden totem to climb. Allowing its aerial roots to anchor securely vertically signals the nodes to maximize leaf sizing and deep rib development.
Caution: Toxic to Pets
Like all true members of the Philodendron genus, this species contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or swallowing any part of the foliage can cause oral swelling, burning, and digestive tract discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it elevated.
Light
▾
Requires bright, indirect, filtered light to mimic its native tropical rainforest canopy. Protect the leaves strictly from harsh direct midday or afternoon solar exposure, which will quickly bleach the glossy green color and permanently scorch the delicate ridges.
Watering
▾
Allow the top 50% of the potting medium to dry out fully before providing a thorough deep soak. It is highly sensitive to overwatering and stagnant moisture. Ensure your planter drains completely and instantly out of the base; avoid waterlogged roots.
Soil & Humidity
▾
Thrives beautifully in elevated humidity environments (60%+) to ensure large leaves emerge smoothly from their sheaths without tearing. Always use an ultra-chunky, loose aroid mix combining coarse orchid bark, perlite, charcoal, and coco coir to keep the root framework highly aerated.
