The Alocasia Cuprea, famously known as the Mirror Plant or Jewel Alocasia, is a breathtaking, alien-like masterpiece. Native to the deep tropical rainforests of Borneo, this rare collector plant is highly celebrated for its extraordinary, leather-thick foliage that carries an intense, otherworldly metallic sheen.

The visual impact of the Cuprea is unparalleled, appearing as if it were sculpted out of polished metal. The heavily embossed leaves feature deeply sunken, near-black primary veins cutting across curved blades that shimmer from coppery-green to rich, iridescent bronze under ambient light. The entire spectacle is completed by a stunning, brilliant wine-red or deep purple underside.

Polished Metallic Iridescence The defining charm of the Cuprea is its mirror-like leaf surface. The dramatic copper-bronze gloss catches and bounces ambient indoor light, offering a futuristic, highly graphic sculptural aesthetic that stands out in any setup.

Compact Architectural Marvel True to its classification as a Jewel Alocasia, this plant channels its energy into perfecting its compact, detailed leaves. It remains beautifully sized for desktops, terrariums, and small shelves without ever growing out of bounds.

Caution: Toxic to Pets Like all premium members of the Alocasia genus, the Cuprea contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting the thick leaves or stems will cause immediate oral burning, swelling, and stomach irritation in cats and dogs. Keep it safely elevated out of reach.

Light

▾

Requires consistent, bright, indirect filtered light. Adequate ambient light levels are critical to help the plant sustain its signature metallic copper sheen. Protect it strictly from harsh, direct afternoon solar rays, which will quickly scorch and permanently bleach out the foliage.

Watering

▾

Allow the top 50% to 75% of the soil mix to dry out completely before providing a thorough deep soak. Jewel Alocasias store moisture efficiently in their thick stems and rhizomes, making them exceptionally sensitive to overwatering and root rot. Ensure the pot has sharp, instant drainage.

Soil & Humidity

▾

Thrives beautifully in elevated humidity environments (60%+). Always pot it in an open, ultra-chunky aroid mix composed of peat soil amended heavily with orchid bark, perlite, and coarse horticultural charcoal to keep oxygen flowing cleanly to the root framework.
