The Alocasia 'Regal Shields' is a magnificent, majestic hybrid famous for its massive, dark velvety foliage and commanding architectural silhouette. Born from a deliberate cross between Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula ('Black Velvet'), this spectacular specimen blends giant leaf size with rich dark coloration.
Each expansive, shield-shaped blade opens in a lush olive shade before maturing into a deep, velvety emerald-to-near-black surface. Highlighted by bright lime-green or silvery primary veins on top and rich purple-burgundy undersides, it creates a breathtaking two-toned contrast from every angle.
Velvety Dark Foliage & Radiant Veins
The hallmark of 'Regal Shields' is its deep color saturation. The velvety, light-absorbing leaf surface makes the lime-green central veining pop dramatically, while the deep plum-purple undersides deliver a luxurious depth.

Caution: Toxic to Pets
Like all premium members of the Alocasia family, 'Regal Shields' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting any part of the foliage or stems causes immediate oral burning, swelling, and digestive discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it safely elevated out of reach.
Light

Requires consistent, bright indirect filtered light to sustain its dark leaf color and sturdy, upright stems. Protect it strictly from harsh, direct afternoon solar rays, which will scorch the velvety foliage. Avoid low light to prevent leggy, drooping petioles.
Watering

Keep the potting soil evenly moist during active growth, allowing the top 25% to 50% of the soil to dry out slightly between thorough drenchings. Do not allow the root system to sit in stagnant water, and ensure excess moisture drains freely out of the pot base.
Soil & Humidity
▾
Thrives best in moderate to elevated humidity (60% or higher) to keep leaf margins smooth and prevent crisping. Plant it in a chunky, moisture-retentive yet well-aerated aroid mix containing rich peat coir, perlite, orchid bark, and horticultural charcoal.
