The Anthurium Veitchii 'King' is undisputed royalty in the rare plant world. Native to the wet rainforests of Colombia, this legendary epiphytic aroid is highly coveted for its massive, elongated, pendulous leaves that feature spectacular, deeply impressed horizontal pleats.

As the 'King' variety matures, its metallic-green leaves can grow several feet long, draping downward with exceptional majesty. The breathtaking texture created by its heavy, regular corrugations makes it an absolute showstopper and a true crown jewel for any serious rare tropical plant collection.

Regal Corrugated Pleats The defining feature of the true 'King' form is the tight, dramatic horizontal ribbing along the leaf surface. As the leaves elongate, these ridges become deeply sculpted, creating a stunning washboard pattern that captures ambient light beautifully.

The Hanging Basket Advantage Because this Anthurium is naturally epiphytic and grows on tree trunks in the wild, it thrives exceptionally well in hanging baskets or on high shelves. Allowing the leaves to hang freely mimics its native habitat and protects the long, delicate leaf tips from rubbing.

Caution: Toxic to Pets Like most premium aroids, Anthurium Veitchii contains calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting the leaves can cause severe oral irritation, swelling, and digestive discomfort in cats and dogs. Keep it safely elevated away from pets.

Light

▾

Requires bright, filtered, indirect light. Dappled canopy light is ideal to support the rapid sizing of its magnificent leaves. Strictly avoid any harsh, direct afternoon sun, which will quickly scorch and permanently scar the heavy ridges.

Watering

▾

Keep the mix lightly and evenly damp, but never waterlogged. Water thoroughly once the top 1 to 2 inches of the chunky mix dry out. Its thick, fleshy roots require constant access to moisture but will rapidly succumb to rot if left in stagnant mud.

Humidity & Soil

▾

Thrives best in high humidity (70%+) to prevent crispy leaf edges and assist new leaves in unfurling cleanly. Always pot it in an ultra-loose, chunky, breathable aroid mix containing plenty of orchid bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, and charcoal.
