The Goldfish Plant 'Tropicana' (Nematanthus) is a whimsical, deeply mesmerizing hanging marvel that brings a burst of playful tropical color to your indoor spaces. Shifting completely away from the standard solid-colored varieties, the 'Tropicana' cultivar is highly celebrated for its spectacular, uniquely striped flowers that genuinely look like tiny, exotic fish swimming through green waters.

Each pouched, pouch-form bloom emerges along the arching stems with a brilliant yellow-orange belly beautifully detailed by deep red-to-maroon vertical stripes. Framed by a dense canopy of small, thick, ultra-waxy jade green leaves that feature dark purple stems and undersides, this trailing epiphyte functions as a brilliant, eye-catching living sculpture.

Exquisite Exotic Striped Blooms The absolute highlight of the Tropicana is its candy-striped flower design. The rich maroon lines slice vertically down the pouch-like orange petals, creating an incredible graphic look that clean-contrasts against the dark, glossy foliage.

Lush Cascading Trailer This plant naturally creates a dense, spreading mound of woody, arching branches. It is custom-built for hanging planters, elevated custom shelving, or wall pockets where its glossy, thick vines can spill downward with elegant fullness.

Worry-Free: Safe for Pets! Unlike common tropical aroids, the Nematanthus family is entirely non-toxic to dogs and cats according to ASPCA guidelines. It stands as an elite, pet-friendly choice for households looking to add rare flair without risking the health of curious furry companions.

Light & Blooming

▾

Requires consistent, high-intensity bright indirect light to continuously fuel its high-energy blooming cycles. Strong ambient light encourages tight leaf node spacing and deep stripe coloration. Protect it strictly from direct afternoon solar rays, which will quickly scorch the glossy leaves.

Watering

▾

Allow the top 50% of the potting medium to dry out completely before providing a thorough deep soak. Its thick, succulent-like leaves store water exceptionally well, making it vulnerable to overwatering. Drop frequencies down during winter months; avoid waterlogged roots.

Soil & Humidity

▾

Thrives beautifully in standard home humidity levels but loves intermediate ranges (50%+). It requires an exceptionally open, chunky, fast-draining potting substrate to keep the root framework aerated. Always pot it in a loose mix heavily amended with coarse perlite and orchid bark.
