The Hoya Carnosa 'Krimson Princess' (often known as Hoya carnosa 'Rubra') is a dazzling, inner-variegated classic that brings vibrant pastel royalty to bright indoor plant collections. Celebrated for its thick succulent leaves painted with creamy-yellow centers framed by deep emerald borders, this hardy wax vine is a timeless favorite for both novice plant parents and seasoned collectors.
What makes the 'Krimson Princess' exceptionally captivating is its signature inner leaf variegation—remembered by the classic collector rule: "the Princess wears her gown on the inside." Under generous ambient light, fresh new leaves flush in brilliant shades of hot pink and ruby red before settling into a warm cream core, while mature vines reward patient growers with clusters of sweet-scented porcelain wax blooms.
Inner Variegation & Ruby Pink Shoots
The hallmark of 'Krimson Princess' is its rich center variegation. Each thick, waxy leaf features a creamy-white or butter-yellow heart framed by a crisp green outer margin, with new growth flushing in vivid bubblegum pink under bright lighting.
Versatile Trailing & Climbing Habit
Whether allowed to trail gracefully from an elevated shelf or hanging planter, or trained upward along a bamboo hoop or trellis, this durable vine builds a dense, colorful foliage display with ease.
100% Pet-Friendly & Safe
Wonderful news for pet parents! The entire Hoya genus is completely non-toxic to dogs and cats according to ASPCA standards, making this royal wax vine a safe, worry-free choice for any room.
Light & Blooming
▾
Requires consistent, bright indirect light to gentle direct morning sunlight. Ample ambient lighting is essential to fuel the rich cream centers, encourage vibrant pink new growth, and trigger umbrella-like clusters of sweet-smelling wax flowers. Protect it from harsh afternoon sun.
Watering
▾
Treat this plant like a semi-succulent. Allow the top 75% of the soil mixture to dry out completely before providing a thorough, deep drench. Its thick leaves store moisture efficiently, making it drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering or soggy soil conditions.
Soil & Care
▾
Adapts easily to standard household humidity (40% to 60%). It requires an ultra-open, fast-draining potting substrate—combine rich peat or coco coir heavily amended with orchid bark, coarse perlite, and horticultural charcoal to keep the root system thoroughly aerated.
