Monstera plants prefer bright, indirect light, but can tolerate low light conditions. In their natural habitat, they grow in the understory of the rainforest, where they receive dappled light filtered through the canopy of taller trees. When grown indoors, they should be placed in a location where they receive bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or west-facing window. Avoid placing your monstera plant in direct sunlight, as this can scorch its leaves. If your monstera is not getting enough light, it may become leggy and have smaller, fewer leaves. On the other hand, if it is getting too much light, its leaves may turn yellow. Adjusting the amount of light your monstera receives can help keep it healthy and encourage new growth.

Monstera plants prefer to be kept evenly moist, but not wet or saturated. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. When you do water, water thoroughly, until it runs out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Never leave the plant sitting in water. If you find that your Monstera is wilting, it is a sign that it needs to be watered immediately.

A well-draining potting mix is important for monstera plants. You can create your own mix by combining equal parts potting soil, perlite, and peat moss, or you can purchase a commercial potting mix that is formulated specifically for plants like monstera.
